The Captain's Log

In the marble body of the city, where history still breathes, Einstürzende Neubauten come to Athens for a unique performance at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, just before the iconic theater closes for restoration works. One of the last opportunities for the audience to experience, within this ancient monument, their singular art—the ritual encounter of sound, silence, and noise.

Born in the fractured landscape of West Berlin, in an era when buildings were collapsing along with certainties, Einstürzende Neubauten learned to listen to the sound of ruins. To transform fragments into rhythm. Metal into pulse. Emptiness into a cry. From 1980 to today, they move where boundaries bend: between light and shadow, between deconstruction and creation, between the “not yet” and the “now.”

At the core of the band stands the multifaceted presence of Blixa Bargeld—at times a voice, at times a whisper, at times a blade. A poet of matter and pause, an architect of a world where noise takes form, becomes sculpture, and silence gains weight.

More than forty years on, they do not look back—they transform. Through their creative process known as Rampen, Einstürzende Neubauten allow music to be born on stage: ideas that emerge in the moment of performance evolve organically, without predetermined direction, open to every possible outcome.

Each concert is different, shaped by the space, the moment, and the energy of the audience. In this way, the music is not merely performed—it comes into being before us, as alien pop: for parallel worlds, for in-between zones where sound does not describe, it simply happens.

And all this unfolds beneath the starry summer sky, at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. A theater that has known collapse and rebirth, a place that carries the memory of decay and survival. Marble will meet metal. Echo will embrace pulse. History will converse with the future.

On June 4th, beneath the rock of the Acropolis, this iconic film will come to life on a monumental HD screen, while its legendary score will be performed live by the 11-member AVEX Ensemble, perfectly synchronized with the movie. A unique experience, presented for the first time in Greece, bringing together cinema, music, and time in an unforgettable night. A rare opportunity to experience a masterpiece of world cinema and music in a venue that will soon fall silent for extensive restoration works.

At the heart of Blade Runner beats the sound of Vangelis. His music is not merely a background score—it is the pulse, the soul, the very universe of the film. The Love Theme, Runner’s Blues, and his noir, jazz, ethnic, and neo-classical melodies by the great Greek composer guide every image, every emotion, every breath of Ridley Scott’s dystopian vision of the future.

Blade Runner Live was first presented at the Royal Albert Hall in London and has since traveled to the world’s most prestigious theaters and opera houses.

Now, the sound of Vangelis will flood Athens, crossing the Attic sky like a luminous comet, synchronizing the hearts of the audience with the rhythm of its world.

A work that, for decades, has foretold a world where technology and human existence merge remains more relevant than ever. Replicants seek freedom and recognition, while humanity questions its own existence, the limits of consciousness, and its future in a world of machines.

The night at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus will transform into a journey through sound, image, and time, where Vangelis’ music will illuminate every dark corner of the future.

A truly unique experience that connects Greece with the universe—and sound with our very soul. Blade Runner Live is the heart and soul of a world that still beats… for all of us.
